I love teaching, I always have done, right from a young age when I use to pretend to be a teacher with my toys. I’ve also been a very creative person, whether that be singing, dancing, or making and creating. Those are the things that I am passionate about so when I came across ARTventurers, something clicked and I thought here is an opportunity where I can put together the things that are important to me and bring the many benefits of art to the littlest members of our society.
So what are the benefits of Art?
- Art promotes creativity.
Creativity is the ability to think outside the box, to string two unrelated ideas together in a new way. Solutions to major problems and breakthroughs of all kinds are linked to creativity. The ability to be creative is vital to the success of our children and the well- being of our world.
- Art encourages Neural Connections
Art is an activity that can employ all the senses. Children’s brain synapses fire away as they experiment and create, squishing paint between their fingers and mixing colours and materials.
- Art builds fine motor skills
When babies and children hold painting tools, move paint around with their fingers or squish playdough and other malleable materials they are using and developing their fine motor muscles. It is these muscles that children need to develop in order to hold a pencil and control it to write letters later on in their learning and development.
- Art develops problem solving abilities
Open ended, process art is nothing but an endless opportunity for making choices, coming to conclusions, second guessing decisions and evaluating results. In our classes we love process art and the enquiry it fosters in young minds.
- Art helps children understand themselves and the World around them
During art we give children many ways to express themselves and as parents and teachers we can offer an environment where it is safe to create and experiment.
