The Big Neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt 2021

Are you part of The Big Neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt yet? We took part in this last year at the very start of my ARTventurers journey. It was lovely have a walk and spot all the different brightly coloured eggs displayed in our neighbours’ windows.

Here’s little Marley with her giant egg that she decorated last year with paint and rainbow rice!

The idea is a super simple one – just pop an Easter Egg in your window! It could be a paper one, a plastic one, a painted one….get as big and creative as you like!! We’ve got some downloadable templates below you can use.

Then over Easter weekend 2021, children and their families can go out for a walk and see how many Easter eggs they can spot in their local area.

So join in, have fun, stay safe and invite your all of your family, friends and neighbours to join in – together we’ll be creating one HUGE neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt!

For lots more activity ideas and inspiration, to share your displays and to keep up with all of The Big Neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt news pop over and join the official Facebook group!

Mother’s Day 2021

Mother’s Day is fast approaching – and is there anything lovelier than a handmade pressie or card?!

Here are some FREE Mother’s Day printables and there are versions for Mummy, Gran, Grandma, Granny, Nana and Nanny too!

Lovely for filling in at home with your little ARTventurers, get them to draw a picture in the box, pop it in frame and hey presto – a lovely personalised present and one that can’t fail to bring a smile to your faces (and often raise a chuckle with the answers!). You could make it into a card too!

Our First ARTventurers Term!

Our First ARTventurers Term!

My ARTventurers franchise became ‘mine’ just as the UK lockdown hit! It goes without saying that I was extremely nervous about starting a business at this time.

I am still teaching art to teenage boys in a young offenders institute for the time being and then deliver art classes to your adorable babies and toddlers on Tuesdays and Fridays, which is quite the change, but it has certainly made it clear about the benefits of art for all! There are many activities in the Baby class that I would use with teenagers and I also enjoy doing as an adult – there really is no age limit to art! It is all about exploring, experimenting, discovery and self-expression, and absolutely anyone can do that in their own way!

It has been an absolute pleasure to have met you all this term. I have been overwhelmed with the response to classes and everyone’s positive attitudes towards getting back to some level of normality! I feel so honoured that many new parents have chosen ARTventurers as the first class to attend with their baby! I was also delighted to welcome two of my ex-students from when I taught art in a Wakefield secondary school, who have brought their gorgeous little ones along to classes! Apart from this making me feel a little old, I felt super proud that art is being passed on through the generations!

Soooo, I now have my first ARTventurers term now under my belt and I have loved every single minute!!

Safety Measures

The Covid measures we put in place have not dampened anyone’s fun in the slightest! The use of painting tools packs or individual baskets of materials ensure the ARTventurers aren’t sharing equipment. We use spots around the circle for the start and end of classes and crosses are marked out on the floor to ensure that the everyone is suitably spaced when taking part in the free-flow part of the class.

Grown ups wearing face coverings, certainly hasn’t stopped the little ones from smiling!!

Baby ARTventurers

Our Baby ARTventurers programme was centred around a showstopper masterpiece, working on this every week alongside other exciting activities, exploring colour, printing, shape, texture and sparkle!! Some of the babies had never attended a baby class of any kind before, but this certainly did not show! The babies got stuck right in with the paint and tools; splattering paint with fly swatters, scraping with velcro hair rollers, dabbing paint with washing up brushes, squishing paint in plastic wallets and of course painting with hands, feet, knees, tummies, the lot!!

Family ARTventurers

Our Family ARTventurers explored 5 weekly themes – Space, Autumn, Build It, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and All About Me! They created an abundance of artwork to take home with them using many different media and techniques such as paint, collage, printing, clay and salt dough. It is amazing to see the looks on the little ones’ faces when they create something they are proud of! I really do think that every one of them has developed their confidence and self esteem throughout the term. Of course it is amazing that they have something to take home and treasure, but one of the elements of the ARTventurers classes that I am most passionate about is what we call ‘process art’. Process art is just that, it is all about the process, not the end product! It is about getting lost in the moment, exploring and discovering new things. It is about them learning from their grown-ups and creating special memories!

ARTventuremums

I wanted to be able to offer something for the tiny babies, so I ran a one off Rainbow themed ARTventuremums session for babies aged 6 weeks to 6 months. We had lots of music and bubbles, explored sensory treasure baskets and created the cutest framed rainbow footprints as a lovely keepsake to treasure for years to come. I am hoping to run these sessions monthly as a gentle introduction to the #artventurersfun!

What’s coming up?

I’m very excited about our fully booked Halloween sessions next week, with lots of spooktacular activities and music! We are taking part in The Big Neighbourhood Pumpkin Trail hosted by ARTventurers, as an alternative to trick or treating this year, as are many families in Wakefield and across the UK. There are LOADS of free printable activities and posters to download here.

Our 5 week winter term starts in November and ALL of our ARTventurers will create their own Christmas themed showstopper which I am sooooo excited about! It’s going to be gorgeous. We have the chance of creating professionally printed Christmas cards to send to loved ones too! And this is all alongside our weekly themes which are Fireworks, Circles (Children in Need), Nursery Rhymes, The Hungry Caterpillar and Winter Wonderland.

There are then two very special weeks of classes all about CHRISTMAS. Spaces are still available for these and you can book a space here.

THANK YOU!!

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me during the first term, whether you have come along to classes in Castleford or Altofts, written a review, liked or shared my Facebook posts or spoken about ARTventurers to friends and family…it means the world!!! I look forward to seeing you soon and also meeting some new faces in the winter term, as well as planning for even more classes in January 2021!

My ARTventure from Young Offenders’ Teacher to ARTventurers Franchisee

Thanks for visiting my website and reading my very first blog post!

Hello!

A bit about me and my background…

I’m Danielle, a proud Wakey lass and mum to 17 month old Marley and we have lived in Castleford coming up to four years. Wakefield is an amazingly creative place to live; full of practising artists, regular art and creative events such as the Artwalk and home to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield (our wedding venue!)

I studied Art and Education at uni and then trained as a secondary art teacher. I have also worked in primary schools and I am currently still in my role as an art teacher to young offenders, a challenging but extremely rewarding job. I teach 15-18 year old boys in custody, although at the moment things are very different and I am working from home and continuing to provide them with creative work they can do independently. I will remain in this role until it is safe for me to start my ARTventurers business in the community.

Since becoming a mum in December 2018 and spending my maternity leave with lovely mums at various classes, I’m sure many of you have or will be in a similar position, where going back to work just feels different. Travelling 25 miles to work meant long days and due to working in a secure setting, no mobile phone to be able to check in on how my daughter was doing with her grandparents.

What led me to ARTventurers?

I found ARTventurers on Google after saying to my husband ‘how nice would it be to do art all day with babies and toddlers?!’ There weren’t any classes of this kind in my local area, so I just knew I had to look further into becoming an ARTventurers franchisee. The thought of starting a new business was a little scary but knowing that ARTventurers have such a fantastic reputation across the country and being part of a bigger team made it less daunting. Little did I know that COVID19 would arrive and delay me from pursuing this new venture, but on a positive note, I have been able to do lots of planning behind the scenes in preparation for starting.

I have always been passionate about art and creativity (for all ages), but there is something so special about seeing children squish and squidge paint without a care in the world! I love seeing my toddler’s eagerness to learn and try new things so much that I can’t wait to be able to spend my time seeing other families exploring too.

Why I want you to be a part of it!

The diagram above shows the benefits of art for little ones, although there are so many benefits to us big people too. I am writing this during mental health awareness week and in the midst of a global pandemic and it is safe to say that the majority of families have found more and more creativity creeping into their household, getting them through and keeping them sane during this time! Us included.

Bringing your little ones to an ARTventurers class will mean you don’t have to stock up on the world’s supply of art materials AND you won’t have to worry about any of the mess as you can leave all that to me! You will be able to just concentrate on having fun and creating memories with your little ones, getting stuck into the art and creative play activities and socialise with other grown ups (which I’m sure you will agree, is so important!) Your little ones will grow and develop their skills through coming along to our classes, forming friendships and becoming confident explorers with lively imaginations.

All children are individual and the free flow element of our ARTventurers classes recognises this – all of the children can explore and create at their own pace and in their own time. We incorporate fun singing and dancing and social time in our classes too – all combined into a jam packed session of colourful, creative (and often messy!) fun.

My favourite part of teaching art has always been when my students are able to experiment and explore, when the process and experience is more important than the final product. That is a massive part of the ARTventurers ethos (although of course, you will be able to create those cute keepsakes too!)

Here are some photos to give you an idea of what you’ve got to look forward to:

How long are the classes and where will they be?

Our family ARTventurers classes will be an hour long and run on a weekly basis. There will also be a chance to attend some Saturday classes as well as holiday workshops, events and of course our award winning birthday parties.

My ARTventurers franchise area covers Wakefield East and the Five Towns (WF1, WF6, WF7, WF8, WF10, WF11). I hope to be able to reach as many families as possible as soon as it is safe and right to do so.

How can I sign up?

You are able to register to join the waiting list here. You will be the first to find out about where and when the classes will be held, with priority booking and a special launch offer.

Until then, make sure you check out our Facebook page and you can also join the group ‘At Home Art and Craft Ideas for Kids With ARTventurers’ for some inspiration on what you can do at home.

Can’t wait to be able to meet you all.
